Next month, Complete Estate & Probate Law will be hosting our Fourth Annual Shred Event. This month we’re going to discuss what you should shred and what you shouldn’t shred to help you prepare your paperwork for drop off!
Shredding documents allows the secure destruction of your personal identifiable information (PII) and helps to alleviate the risks of identity left. What exactly does that mean and what is considered personal identifiable information?
- Name
- Address
- Phone Number
- Date of Birth
- Social Security Number
- Driver’s License Number
- Credit Card Information
- Bank Account Information
- Mother’s maiden name (think passwords)
One of the ways that this information is obtained is from stolen mail, and items found in the trash or recycling. Most people just throw out what is considered “junk mail” such has credit card offers. It’s always best to look through those and ensure none of your information is listed there.
